Rostering in Forefront

This article explains the different options for rostering with Forefront.

Rostering Forefront creates students, teacher accounts, and classes. There are a variety of rostering methods to best fit districts’ needs.

Who can roster Forefront?

Users District Manager rights in their Forefront account can prepare and set up a roster file sync or perform a manual roster upload. Learn more about user roles here. Reach out to support if you need District Manager rights and have not been assigned them already.

One-Time Upload

Who is this for? Single schools or small districts. This is the only configuration type possible for Lite plan subscribers.

Schools and districts may prepare a data file for a one-time upload at the beginning of each new school year. The District Manager then manages ongoing changes through the year by adding individual user records (e.g. new and substitute teacher accounts). Teachers can then add new students to their classes once they have been added to Forefront.

To get started, make sure that the person preparing these data files and performing the upload has a District Manager account in Forefront. This person will prepare your data file as outlined here Roster File Contents and then upload the file as outlined in the Manual Roster Uploads article.

SFTP Process

Who is this for? Districts with multiple elementary schools or schools with a dedicated tech manager.

Districts may run a script exporting data from your Student Information System (SIS) to prepare data files for a daily import into Forefront. Note that Forefront supports the OneRoster file format.

To get started, make sure that the person preparing these data files and performing the upload has a District Manager account in Forefront. This person will prepare your data file as outlined here Roster File Contents and then connect it to our app through SFTP as detailed in the article Rostering Sync Setup and Connect to the SFTP Server.

Districts that use ClassLink may set up a user sync so that teachers and non-instructional staff may use ClassLink SSO. Search for “Forefront Education” in ClassLink, add our app to your ClassLink account, and let us know so that we may set up the user sync for single sign-on.

We also support rostering through ClassLink. If your district decides to roster through ClassLink, Forefront’s customer success team can discuss configuration for that rostering integration. Connect with us today.

Clever Rostering

Who is this for? Districts that use Clever for SSO or rostering.

Districts that use Clever may roster and provide Clever SSO access for teachers. Note that students do not log into Forefront and do not need to be provided with login access through Clever. Districts can request to use Forefront with Clever which will initiate the rostering process with Forefront’s customer success team.
