Understanding Demographic Data Capabilities

This article explains demographic data capabilities for users of Forefront.

Demographics in Forefront Overview

Demographics must be enabled to be uploaded.

Before student demographic information can be uploaded into the system, the appropriate categories of demographics need to be activated for your account. If you are not sure if this has been done, before uploading please reach out to support@forefront.education to ensure that demographics in Forefront match the upload file.

Note: for districts using Clever, most use the default categories for gender, race, and ethnicity. These can easily be enabled and visualized.

Demographics are fully customizable per district.

The information below details the current default demographic categories and their fields.

Please contact our team if you would like to have additional demographic categories or specific terms added to your account. Demographics are fully customizable per district.

How to Upload Demographics

In your spreadsheet for uploading demographics, the column headers will need to map the demographic type and the parse codes will need to map to the correct field.

For example, for gender demographics, the spreadsheet will need a column titled “Gender” that includes mappable parse codes that references another column of student IDs.

Commonly Used Demographic Fields

Below are some the most commonly used demographic categories. Forefront can support fully custom demographic categories as well as “protected” demographic categories such as IEP status and Free and Reduced Lunch status. Reach out to support@forefront.education to learn more.
